Accommodation for the family has been identified and there are ongoing discussions with housing associations and private landlords regarding future housing for more refugees coming to the Stirling area.

Once the family arrives the parties involved in their resettlement will focus on helping them integrate with the local community. No further updates will be given over the next few weeks. The council also respectfully requests that the family is afforded privacy and that no contact with the refugees is attempted.

A Stirling Council spokesperson said:

“We will welcome our first family of Syrian refugees to Stirling before Christmas. Those in the operational task force leading on this have done incredibly well to pull this together in a fairly short space of time and the support and engagement we have received from local residents and groups has played a huge part in the success of this work.

“Following the initial arrival of the family, community groups and organisations who have offered their help will come together to help us support the family and make their resettlement here in Stirling a successful one. We look forward to welcoming Syrian refugees to our community and know residents in the area will join us in making them feel at home here.”

Stirling Council advises anyone wishing to make a monetary donation to do so via the Scotland Welcomes Refugees website. Goods can also be donated through existing local charities that also help vulnerable people in Stirling.
