The Atrium is set to host the first ever University of Stirling Residence Cup – an inter-halls ping pong tournament.

The event is billed by organisers as a “fun, mixed table-tennis tournament” and will kick off at 5pm on Wednesday, March 15, at the recently-installed ping pong table next to the library.

The initiative was dreamt up by a group of MSc Sport Management students, Andrew Lyon, Fraser Hamilton, Paul Recchia, Pradeep Kumar Raghubabu and Xiao Lyu.

With plenty of clubs, teams and intramural sports on campus, they are aiming to introduce an inter-residence competition to the university and get more students participating in sport.

The Residence Cup team have already held a couple of mini pre-tournament events to grow anticipation for the tournament, including a “longest rally contest” at the end of February.

The March 15 set-piece tournament is being run in partnership with the Table Tennis Club and the university’s Sport and Development Services.

Paul Recchia, marketing manager for the Residence Cup, said: “Lovely music offered by Global SOUND and fantastic prizes have been provided by Napizza and Verry Kerry.

“Don’t be shy – come and see if you can be our champ!”
