This year the Stirling University Rugby boys have raised more money for Movember than any other UK university. They have been doing a range of activities in order to raise money including a 24hr cycling challenge in the Atrium, trying to grow moustaches throughout Movember and dying their hair different colours. its
Their Mo-tivation is:
SURFC are wanting to raise awareness about testicular cancer and prostate cancer, how it can effect you physically and mentally and help to educate. While Movember is only for 1 month, the problems it tries to tackle isn’t and trying to raise money by looking stupid for one month is the least we could do. Let’s help to stop men dying young.
The guys have raised a tremendous amount of money, and are £500 away from their £12,000 target. The money raised will go to a number of charities that focus on mens health such as suicide prevention, testicular and prostate cancer awareness. Prostate cancer is the second most common cancer in men worldwide the money raised will go towards research and treatment.
Globally every minute a man dies from suicide, the awareness and funds raised during Movember is vital in saving mens lives. Movember was started in Australia in 2003, and has become more popular every year since.
Team Captain Johnny Urquhart said:
I think the boys have done class. After the hair dye and shave everyone bought in which was great to see. All the lads were great.
