Recently some local Conservative Party Councillors for the Stirling area have suggested that “pay and display” parking charges may be utilised as part of a solution to address the parking problem as part of a Community Parking Management Plan based on Stirling’s Parking Policy Framework.
An examination of the document reveals that areas in which such measures may be adopted include; Callander, Bridge of Allan and Stirling City .The move would mean that Stirling follows areas such as Dunblane in adopting a Community Parking Management Plan.
Upon speaking to the Daily Record, Dunblane Councillor Alastair Majury said he was “extremely disappointed with the proposal ” and said it “is not going to be well received”. Majury also encouraged the council to “rethink this approach”.
However when speaking to the Daily Record, although Jim Thompson the convener of the Housing and Environment committee at Stirling Council said “every area will be looked at individually” and that there are no set charges because they are “consulting with traders and residents”, Thompson did argue that “Pay and Display” charges that were introduced in Stirling City “have improved things”.
The proposal follows after a survey by Bridge of Allan Community Council revealed the extent of the issue in which a majority from over 600 respondents were in favour of waiting time restrictions on streets such as Henderson Street. However a significant number of respondents roughly 26% did not back the proposal , consequently the community council has encouraged the maintenance of the current parking regulations without changes.
