New Year, Same BUCS: Badminton starts off the semester

2 mins read

We started off the first BUCS Wednesday of the semester this week with a Badminton 1’s fixture against the University of West of Scotland.

Despite a late start to the match, the competition started off with the women’s and men’s singles, with 4 of Stirling’s finest starting off the fixture. Both captains were up against tricky opponents, but each won their respective match.

The second men’s single match also brought in a win, giving Stirling 3 points against their competition. Next up was the doubles. Stirling had 8 teams playing in this part of the competition, 2 men’s teams, 2 women’s teams, and 4 mixed doubles teams.

UWS proved to be a strong opponent however, as they won all the women’s and men’s doubles. After some fiercely fought competition however, the 4th mixed doubles team managed a solid win against their opponents, which meant the day ended on a 4-8 win for UWS.

Despite a strong win from the UWS side, men’s captain James Robertson was happy with the result. He had this to say about the meet:

I think the team played quite well today, we all tried our best and had a good performance on court from pretty much everyone.

When asked about the previous fixture against the University of West of Scotland, Robertson was happy with the team’s performance. He said, “it felt like this was definitely an improvement”.

With 3 more BUCS matches to come, Stirling will be looking to improve on their performance from Wednesday, with their next fixture against league toppers Strathclyde next week.
