President Roderick Wilson commented on the victory: “A lot of hard work has went in, from the Dusk club nights to all our charity fundraisers, and it’s amazing for our society to get this level of recognition for all our efforts.”

The club have been hosting Rock nights at Dusk on Thursday nights, a time when the club has usually been closed in the past. And just last month, the club raised hundreds of pounds for Scotland’s Association for Mental Health.

Along with the LGBTQ+ society, Rock and Metal won the Club Collaboration award for their ‘Pride Rocks’ event.

Brig Newspaper scooped up a number of awards and honourable mentions, with Editor in Chief Harry Mcarthur winning President of the year.

They also won the Best Event category, with Brig’s 50th Alumni Ball impressing all. There was a huge turnout, with alumni, current members and faculty representatives all in attendance.

Speaking after the win, Mcarthur said: “It’s an honour to win President of the year for Brig. I was lucky to have had a great team with me. I like to think of this as a team award and that I was just lucky enough to have my name on it.”

Meanwhile, co-curricular officer Svea Horn picked up the Lifetime Achievement Award. She said: “I was up against some really amazing people who have also invested a lot of time and energy into making our union and university a better place.”

The co-operative society, which was founded in January, won the award for the best new society on campus.

Co-founder and chairperson Cian Ireland was delighted with the result. He said: “We’re massively pleased and humbled to be recognised in this way, we’ve spend this semester creating contacts with external organisations to further our cause.”

This is all part of the club’s vision, and the strong foundations they have built this year will hopefully spur them onto further success in the next academic year.

All clubs and societies were in high spirits throughout the evening. After a delicious three course meal enjoyed by more than two hundred guests, Jamie Grant stepped up to the stage to announce the highly anticipated awards.

In an emotional speech, Jamie Grant choked up as he thanked Elaine and his fellow sabbs for their contributions to the union this year.

The ceremony was followed by a fun night of ceilidh dancing. At the end of the night, the whole room came together to dance the Orcadian strip the willow, before the two classics, Auld Lang Syne and Loch Lomond.

As everyone belted out the lyrics with enthusiasm, the room made a huge circle to show their appreciation to the outgoing sabbatical team, who danced in the middle.

VP Communities Jamie Grant said: “It’s only right the clubs and societies’ achievements are recognised and celebrated. I’m so proud of how large the event has grown.”

Reflecting on his time in the job, Grant added: “It’s the end of an amazing two years as VP Communities, and the culmination of almost 6 years here at Stirling. I couldn’t have asked for a better send-off.”

A spectacular night was had by all. As clubs and societies are winding down for the semester and term is coming to an end, it is time to reflect but also think about the year ahead and how the club’s will continue their success.
