UPDATE: The university has confirmed that graduation will be going ahead as planned tomorrow (Tuesday 25) despite the widespread flooding in Stirling. The university announced:

This follows flooding at one of the buildings on campus, with water seen bursting through doors at Alexander Court.

EARLIER: Stirling has been severely hit by flash flooding following heavy rainfall and thunderstorms which has affected areas across the city.

The Tesco Superstore on Wallace Street has been forced to close after the roof caved in from extreme water pressure. Similarly, Sainsburys on Drip Road has also shut following the adverse weather.

The Forth Valley Police Division announced that Causewayhead Road (particularly the area near Stirling Rugby Club), Burghmuir Road leading to Craigs Roundabout, Spittal Street, and Sheriffmuir Road in Bridge of Allan are all closed due to flood water. The M9 between junction nine and ten reopened after it was deemed safe to travel following an earlier closure.

Further flooding has been reported around King’s Park, Easter Cornton Road, and Cedar Avenue.

Images captured in the affected areas show cars submerged in water and expected damage to businesses and properties. Our Place Cafe, located on Murray Place, shared on Facebook that the premises will be ‘closed for the foreseeable future’ due to water damage.

The Met Office had earlier issued a yellow weather warning, advising Stirling residents to expect some flooding and disruption to travel.

Bruce Crawford MSP warned on Facebook: “Across the area, flash flooding has left some roads submerged and extremely dangerous. Please do not drive if you don’t have to and use caution on the roads.”

Stirling council echoed these concerns: “Flash flooding has been reported throughout areas of Stirling tonight. Please consider your travel before making any journeys. We’re trying to build a picture of the worst-hit areas. Updates to follow.”
