Pride stride marches for LGBT rights

A group of students held a march around campus as part of Pride Week on Wednesday (Feb 12) night.

The march, named the “Pride Stride” went from Haldanes, around the Students’ Union building, across the bridge, past the accommodation buildings, past Pathfoot, around the loch and back towards Haldanes.

The group carries signs and chanted slogans supporting LGBT rights as they played music from a portable speaker.

The march attracted attention from students staying in accommodation, who watched from their windows as the group passed.

Elijah Graham, the union’s LGBT Officer spoke with Brig after the march.

“I thought it was fantastic, it was the first event of its kind to be held during pride week.

“It had a really nice atmosphere and it brought people together.”

Graham said that their was a lot of interest in the Pride Stride after it was advertised,

“We had a lot of people ask about it at the stall.”I look forward to running more events like this in the future.”

The Pride Stride was one of many events held as part of Pride Week, that was hosted by the LGBT+ Society, including information stalls on LGBT issues, panel discussions and a drag show.
