Fresh hopes for lock-down survival for Stirling Albion FC

2 mins read

The Stirling-based football club announced yesterday that their initial fundraising target of £10,000 in order to keep the football club afloat, has been met.

The Ladbrokes League 2 club sit sixth in the league standings, only five points adrift of a promotion playoff place, before the football season was ordered to finish early due to fears over public safety due to COVID-19.

The Binos were gunning for a promotion play-off spot.

However, with all Scottish games being suspended, and by extension the gate receipts, the club found itself in a difficult situation in terms of making ends meet – as their biggest source of income was now defunct.

In order to pay all employees – including players, coaches, management and stadium staff, the club started a GoFundMe page to provide an outlet for especially generous supporters to help their club in their time of need.

Only twenty-four hours after the fundraising window was opened, the initial £10,000 mark was reached.

A joint statement by Stirling Albion FC and Stirling Albion Supporters Trust read:

“As a fan-owned club, we can’t rely on any grand benefactors, so it is to our fans and our community that we must turn for financial support.

“Whilst measures and support received from the SFA, SPFL and government are welcomed, they do not completely address the financial shortfall that is engulfing us now and will do in the weeks and months to come.

“It remains true that we need to turn to members of the Supporters’ Trust, to supporters in general, and to the wider communities in Stirling and ask for financial help to get us through and beyond these tough times.”

The club’s GoFundMe page can be accessed from here: https://www.gofundme.com/f/stirling-albion-supporters-trust?utm_source=customer&utm_medium=copy_link-tip&utm_campaign=p_cp+share-sheet and all donations past the first target are welcome.
