Mark Ruskell, the Scottish Green party MSP for Mid Scotland and Fife has welcomed the change in policy by supermarket Waitrose which was affecting those who were caring for a relative or self isolating due to coronavirus.

The policy which meant that those who were self isolating or caring for relatives during coronavirus would also have to pay back up to two weeks of the work they had missed, has now been reversed and Waitrose have now confirmed that they will offer staff who are self-isolating due to underlying health concerns either of their own or of a family member Paid Absence.

Commenting on the announcement by Waitrose , Ruskell said he was “delighted” that Waitrose has changed its policy after he and others got it contact.

Adding that, “Waitrose staff do vital and essential work at this time but that does not mean that they should be expected to sacrifice their own health and wellbeing. Any constituents who are facing similar issues should get in touch.

“We are able to help, and you will be able to remain anonymous.”
