Phase two of Polmaise and Callander recycling centres re-opening will start tomorrow

3 mins read

Temporary restrictions on waste types and vans/trailers have now been lifted at Polmaise and Callander recycling centres.

From tomorrow residents will be allowed to deposit all normal household waste, including glass and bulky items.

Additionally, drivers of commercially liveried vans and trailers will be allowed to get rid of residential household waste from their own property at the recycling centres.

This comes after both Polmaise and Callander recycling centre were temporarily opened back up on June 1 after lockdown restrictions were eased slightly in Scotland.

The Council have said this has come after careful consideration that they are in a position to reopen all waste streams at both centres and also to introduce weekend operating hours.

Traffic management will remain in place at both recycling centres, to help the flow of vehicles and also to make sure social distancing is in place.

The recycling centre opening times will be:

  • Polmaise: Mon-Sun 9am to 4pm (last entry into the queue)
  • Callander: Mon-Fri 5pm to 7.30pm (last entry into the queue) and Saturday 10am to 1.30pm (last entry into the queue).

Convener of Stirling Council’s Housing and Environment Committee, Councillor Jim Thomson said: “We have seen a large number of daily visitors at both sites since their partial reopening on June 1, and, thanks to robust traffic management and the efforts of our staff, along with the responsible behaviour of local householders, things have been running smoothly.

“I want to thank residents for their patience as well while we worked to reinstate all waste streams at both centres as soon as we possibly could.”

Vice Convener of the Committee, Councillor Danny Gibson said: “Our waste services team have been working hard to re-open our recycling centres in as safe a manner as possible.

“I would urge all visitors to follow social distancing rules to ensure continued compliance with national guidelines, as well as the safety of both our staff and fellow members of the public.

“Please continue to support us by only coming if you have an essential need, by following the advice and by being patient and respectful of others.”

Stirling Council are reviewing the re-opening arrangements for Balfron recycling centre. More details on its opening will be available soon.
