The judicial giant and well known public figure globally as second woman ever appointed to Supreme Court died at her home in Washington yesterday
The Supreme Court gave a statement indicating that the Justice Ginsberg passed away as a result of metastatic pancreatic cancer, after years of health complications including beating both colon and pancreatic cancer, suffering from broken ribs, and blocked arteries- all while continuing her work in the Supreme Court without fail, amidst growing calls for her retirement.
Bader Ginsburg paved the way for female rights in the USA, and continued to provide a vital voice for women in a Supreme Court. She often came into conflict with her peers over interpretations of the constitution as a socially liberal individual, whom believed in socially liberal policies.
Ginsburg spent a considerable part of her legal career as an advocate for the advancement of gender equality, winning multiple arguments before the Supreme Court on the matter, with noteable cases such as The United States Vs Virginia, and Olmstead Vs L.C.
Her personal experiences of the days when she graduated at the top of her law school class, then couldn’t find work at a law firm because firms wouldn’t hire women for the job drove her pioneering work in gender equality, amongst her strong ideals and success as a lawyer.

She served in the Supreme Court as an associate justice of the United States from 1993, to her death now in 2020, never retiring from her imperative role as a Democratic voice within the system, now dominated by Republican party affiliates.
Her death comes at a time where Trump, as President can appoint a new justice to the Supreme Court, with many Democrats sweating profusely at the prospect of his nominee. However, the presidential election campaign may likely impede this process, with whomever succeeding choosing in their new term.
Joe Biden has publicly as of today stated that he believes that the nomination to replace Supreme Court Justice Ginsburg should happen after voters “pick the president.”
It is difficult to comment on what will happen, but there is a new seat open on the Supreme Court: during a presidential election. Only time will tell how this plays out.
Days before her death, aware of the United States presidential election scheduled in less than two months, and hoping for the inauguration of a new president to replace Donald Trump in just over four months, she dictated a statement to her granddaughter: “My most fervent wish is that I will not be replaced until a new president is installed.”
President Trump has stated that he just heard about her death after a 2 hour rally, officially stating, “I didn’t know she was dead. Wow.”
Tweets from politicians and public figures alike have been trending on Twitter in support and mourning for Bader Ginsberg.
