Stirling businesses welcome freshers

As Fresher’s week kicked off, many different Stirling business are set to welcome the new students to the area. 

Go Forth Stirling, who run the city’s Business Improvement District (BID), have been working along with local shops, pubs, cafes, and hotels to give new students a warm welcome to the city. 

Throughout Freshers week, many local businesses will have special offers going on for students and their families. 

Go Forth Stirling Project Director Danielle McRorie-Smith said: “Go Forth and its businesses are extending a warm Stirling welcome to the city for all students and especially those who are just starting their university life.

“September typically arrives with a flurry of Freshers’ activity and students descending on the City and, while 2020 will be unlike previous years, we are welcoming all new and returning arrivals to our great city with a schedule of events and promotions.

“Students and their families have a great opportunity to enjoy our wonderful city and absorb all it has to offer.

“And there are some great hotels to choose from if families decide to stay on for a few days and really get to know Stirling.”

One local business which students may be interested in, is The Book Nook. Which is an independent second-hand bookshop café on Upper Craigs, which will be open from Monday 14 September. 

The book shop is owned by to Stirling University graduates and it sells second-hands books and also serves homemade baked goods, toasted bagels, and hot drinks. 

Also, Vera Artisan Bakery is offering ten per cent off to students. While any students who spends ten pound or more in the bakery will receive a University of Stirling personalised cupcake. 

The Highland Hotel is another business offering a discount off twenty-five per cent off on food and drinks for students and their families between 12 and 21 September, while Hemp Room Café will be offering ten per cent off. 

Other local restaurants and pubs around Stirling are also continuing the Help Out to Eat Out scheme until the end on September. 

Additionally, Europa Music on Friars Street will be running a Record Store Day on Saturday 26 September, while at Stirling Gin Distillery the team are hosting a freshers Cocktail Masterclass on Tuesday 22 September. 

The Cocktail Masterclass will involve of having the chance to create two cocktails of your own, and the Distillery is also offering a two-for-one deal on their classic Gin Tour between September 11 and 26 for freshers. 

Brew Dog Stirling based in Baker Street will also be having a pub quiz every Tuesday evening, and it will give students a chance to win £50 in BrewBucks.

While local saloon Jeff Buchan Hair and Beauty will be offering money off cuts, colours, and extensions from 11 to 26 September.
