14 University of Stirling students are believed to have been tested for coronavirus.

All the students are currently self-isolating, and contact tracing is underway.

It is understood all the students who tested positive so far, are members of the university sports teams.

A University spokesperson said: “A small number of COVID-19 cases have been confirmed among members of some University student sports clubs. Students affected and any close contacts have been identified, contacted by NHS Test and Protect, and are self-isolating accordingly.”

“Only those who have already been identified as close contacts need to self-isolate. The University is providing advice and support to all students in partnership with the NHS.”

“We are continuing to work with the Scottish Government, the NHS, and all relevant organisations, and are following the latest guidance.

“We would like to reassure our University community and the wider public that the University has robust measures in place to reduce the risk posed by COVID-19, and we are fully prepared and ready to support the NHS when the virus affects members of our community.”

“To respect and maintain patient confidentiality, no further details will be given.”

Additionally, 2000 people who use Pure Gym in Stirling are being contact from Test and Protect teams as “precautionary measures”.

A statement from Pure Gym Stirling’s Twitter they said: “On 1st October, PureGym were notified by Stirling Council Environmental Health (EHO) that three people who later tested positive for Covid-19 had visited the Stirling PureGym between 24th – 28th September.”

“As part of EHO’s contact tracing procedures, PureGym supplied the details of members, staff and visitors who visited the gym during those dates and is working with EHO on contacting them with further information.”

“Those identified are considered to have had limited contact with a person who has Covid-19 and are therefore not required to self-isolate. Stirling, PureGym, which is Covid secure as a result of our TrainSafe protocols, remains open and all members can attend as per the existing guidelines.”
