This afternoon a car drove onto the tracks at Stirling railway station.

At 12.17 a small black hatchback drove through a fence at the railway station carpark and onto the train tracks, blocking off lines 2 and 3.

The incident was believed to have been an accident, according to police who have also said that those in the car weren’t seriously injured.

A Scotrail employee said “I think it was a loss of control, they thought they were in reverse and panicked.”

Network rail are on site to clear the car from railway lines , although the station is still running as normal with all services due to run through the affected lines being redirected to other available platforms.

A similar incident was reported in Fort William at around the same time.

Network rail will be looking into the matter, a spokesperson has said; “There will be an investigation to find out how the car ended up on the line.”
