Well that’s all for Qualifying, be sure to tune into the race tomorrow. Here’s the results:
There’s just no stopping Hamilton this season.
Here’s your top 10. Any surprises?
HAM BOT VER ALB PER RIC OCO GAS NOR KVY
Max hopeful he can push from 3rd with a good start. “Overall it was a decent qualifying. We’ll see how we go tomorrow on a track that can be tricky for tyres. I hope it’s an exciting race, that’s the most important thing – I’ll be trying to stay as close to Mercedes as I can off the start line”
Hamilton yet again producing the goods giving us a very familiar front row. Renault look to have the advantage in the midfield battle but Checo continues to impress.
An impressive finish from both Renaults leaves them starting 6th and 7th. Someone sign Perez already the mans just qualified 5th.
Lewis Pole! Bottas second and Verstappen 3rd
Hamilton betters his time, Gasly 4, Bottas can only go second and Max crosses 3rd. Albon crosses beating Gasly
The flying laps will start coming in, Hamilton first out.
Verstappen splits the Mercedes as Hamilton goes provisional pole, just the same old story then. 6 minutes left to go in Q3
Perez on provisional pole with the Mercs and Red Bulls still to come
Soft tyres all round, we could see some pretty quick lap times come in over the next 10 minutes.
Q3 underway as Verstappen still hunts his first pole of the season. He looks quick but couldn’t match Lewis in Q2
Hamilton looking the quickest – yet again as we go into Q3. Both Renault Cars through which strengthens their position for 3rd place
Both Alpha Tauri cars scrape through. Eliminated in Q2:
11. Sebastian Vettel, Ferrari
12. Charles Leclerc, Ferrari
13. Lance Stroll, Racing Point
14. George Russell, Williams
15. Carlos Sainz, McLaren
Another disappointing qualifying for the Ferrari’s, Vettel finishes 11 and Leclerc 12. Stroll couldn’t carry Q1 pace into Q2 and starts 13th.
Kvyat only good enough for 8, Ricardo 4, Gasly struggles and ends 10th. Both Ferrari cars are out.
Ocon crosses the line 7th, it might just be enough but many cars still to come.
Only 6 cars have set times so far, they don’t make this any easier for us
Hamilton goes quicker than Verstappen, crossing the line with a 1:27.6. 5 minutes to go
Verstappen goes first with a 1:28.0, Norris 1:28.7
We’re back underway as cars being to come back out the garage
Sainz experienced some issue with the car, perhaps the gearbox, the incident was not down to driver error which makes it worse for the Spaniard
When we get underway we will have 9:10 on the clock – the track might get busy!
No times set yet, this could make for a very interesting end to the session. Unfortunately for Sainz he wont be able to complete the session and will start 15th tomorrow – providing no penalties are applied.
RED FLAG – session stopped as Sainz remains stranded on track
Yellow Flag in Sector 1. The McLaren of Sainz seems to have stopped on the first turn
The cars start to come out as we are underway in Qualifying Session 2. Both Stroll and Gasly impressed in Q3 will we see more of the same this time?
Here’s a recap of who got eliminated in Q1:
16) Antonio Giovinazzi, Alfa Romeo
17) Kimi Raikkonen, Alfa Romeo
18) Kevin Magnussen, Haas
19) Romain Grosjean, Haas
20) Nicholas Latifi, Williams
Lance Stroll, who claimed pole last time out finishing P2 in that last session. That Racing Point looking to be very quick yet again.
No real surprises in Q3, The Alfa Romeo cars 16 and 17, the Hass cars 18 and 19 with Latifi starting from the back of the grid.
Ricciardo gets himself out of the bottom 5, Norris flying and Perez could have a worry at 12th. Latifi 20th
Russell goes 8th, Vettel 6th, Hass cars finish 17th and 18th
Russell is the first again to set a flying lap, currently sitting 16th he needs to put in a good lap here
Time for the elimination shoot-out as the clock ticks below 2 minutes left in Q3
Gasley comfortably sitting in 4th, should be enough to see him through to Q2
Trouble for Leclerc as he gets caught up in traffic on his last lap, could that be a sign of things to come?
Hamilton leads the way at the moment, 4 tenths quicker that his teammate.
Finally some cars out on track, The Hass cars come across the line as the times start to come in
Sparks flying from the RedBull on that last lap.
Max currently the only one out on track. Surprisingly never started on the first two rows on this track. That should change today unless something goes horribly wrong
Just how good does the track look under the lights?
That’s us underway, the Williams of George Russell is the first car out on tack looking to make it into Q2 yet again.
This is the latest in the year the Bahrain GP has taken place, could we slightly different track conditions under the night sky today?
After a disappointing race weekend in Turkey, can Bottas come back stronger and beat both Hamilton and Verstappen to pole?
Not long now. Bahrain will be first of three consecutive floodlit races to close out the 2020 season in the Middle East. Hopefully today is as exciting as the season so far
Just 15 minutes to go till we’re underway here in Bahrain. Will we see more frustration from Seb in qualifying today?
The McLaren cars won the battle in Practice 3 but will they win the war this weekend. Daniel Ricciardo has been in fine form the last few races and following Turkey there could be a late surge from the Ferrari team.
Alex Albon has a point to prove this weekend and his major crash in practice surely didn’t help his confidence. Will he out-qualify Max for the first time this season?
It was Verstappen who won Practice 3 as the McLaren’s look to be the ‘best of the rest.’ Qualifying follows at 14:00.
