Students seek Scottish Cup success

Stirling University Men’s team have their eyes on a Scottish Cup run this season, as they begin their campaign in the competition this weekend.

They line up again Jeanfield Swifts this Saturday, who sit second in The East of Scotland Premier League, in the Second Preliminary round of the Scottish Cup.

The match against unbeaten Jeanfield will decide who will reach the First-Round proper of the competition.

Stirling Head Coach Chris Geddes said: “It’s going to be a very difficult game against an unbeaten side who are second in their league.

“They have quality players who have played in the leagues above so we know it will be a challenge. It’s a proper 50/50 game and one all the boys are looking forward to.”

The university, who reached the third round of the competition for the first time in 2018, have proved to be no pushovers against a number of experienced sides so far this season.

Stirling come into the match on a high, after three wins in the last four games, all against challenging opposition.

Recent wins against Bo’ness United, Caledonian Braves and Gala Fairydean, have led the students to an impressive sixth in the league, and they will be hoping to take that form into the game this weekend.

Geddes said: “We realise it’s only the preliminary rounds of the Scottish cup due to the Covid situation and the re-structure of this year’s competition, but we are all excited for it none the less.

“Both teams will be confident so it makes for an entertaining game and we will go in confident but also very respectful of our opposition.”

The match kicks-off at 12:30pm on Saturday December 12th, at Riverside Stadium, Perth. Follow @StirlingUniFC on Twitter for match updates.
