Stirling students have been urged to stay safe as the country enters its third lockdown to contain the spread of coronavirus.
Stirling, alongside the rest of mainland Scotland, was placed into Tier 4 lockdown on Boxing Day as coronavirus cases continued to rise and the discovery of new COVID-19 strains.
The University of Stirling has published new guidance for students on how they can stay safe during the lockdown.
Students have been urged to follow all of the Tier 4 rules from the Scottish Government, such as only socialising with their own household and only meeting with one other household outdoors.
Following a number of parties at student flats across the UK earlier in the year, students have been reminded not to attend any house parties to prevent spreading or catching coronavirus.
Any student in Stirling who shows coronavirus symptoms can get a test from the mobile testing centre on campus.
The University Secretary Eileen Schofield, who is leading the university’s response to COVID-19 emailed all students with updated safety guidance and the changes to campus next semester. Schofield echoed the university’s safety message and ensured that students would be updated as regulations change.
“Please continue to follow the Scottish Government’s general public health advice and guidance, look after one another and stay safe.
“Should there be any further changes to the latest government advice we will communicate these in due course.”
While travelling between local areas is restricted there are some exemptions for students, including travelling for work and study, travelling to use the library, computers or study spaces, to attend any in-person classes and attend any placements.
The university has laid out its early plans for next semester.
Online learning will continue and students returning to accommodation will have to book a time slot as part of a six-week staggered return to campus.
The Tier 4 lockdown has forced all hospitality outlets, non-essential shops, hairdressers and barbers to close, in what would have been one of the busiest weeks for these industries.
The lockdown is said to last for at least three weeks.
