BBC Songs of Praise from Stirling

1 min read

BBC One’s religious programme Songs of Praise has broadcast an episode from Stirling today.

Northern Irish broadcaster Claire McCollum presented the show and visited a few of Stirling’s historic landmarks.

These included Stirling Castle where Mary, Queen of Scots, and her son King James VI once lived.

McCollum also visited the Church of the Holy Rude, the place of James VI’s coronation in 1567. The building is one of the only churches to have crowned a monarch and still be active today. She interviews the current minister, the Reverend Alan Miller.

King James VI later went on to rule both Scotland and England, both independent at the time. He commissioned the translation of the bible to what is known as the King James Version (KJV). This had an impact on both religion as a whole and the English language.

Also in the episode, McCollum speaks to an American artist of faith now living in Stirling. Former JLS singer, JB Gill speaks to a musician and former addict who found freedom in Jesus Christ.

Inspiring hymns and songs come from Stirling’s Church of the Holy Rude as well as Glasgow and Edinburgh.

You can watch the episode now on BBC iPlayer.
