With the first payments reaching families in just over a month, Stirling MSP Bruce Crawford and local Councillor Evelyn Tweed have expressed delight at the number of early applications for the ‘game-changing’ Scottish Child Payment.
The Scottish Child Payment is part of the Scottish government’s “Tackling Child poverty” plan and helps towards the costs of supporting a family. It is a weekly payment of £10 that applicants can get for every child they look after under 6 years of age.
Local Councillor Evelyn Tweed said:
‘“This is just the start of the work Social Security Scotland is introducing to make a difference to the lives of people in Stirling, with the Scottish Child Payment described as ‘game-changing’ by anti-poverty charities”.
“I would urge anyone who has not yet applied to the scheme to make sure they do so, as I know this support can go a long way in relieving some of the financial pressure families in Stirling currently face.”
So far, Social Security Scotland has received 56,000 applications since the process opened in November. Both Crawford and Tweed urge any families in the Stirling area who have not yet applied for the scheme to do so to ensure they do not miss out on any money.
Bruce Crawford MSP said:
“It is extremely encouraging to see so many families sign up early to receive their Scottish Child Payment when it is rolled out in February by the SNP Scottish Government.”
Crawford added “When the payment is introduced it will provide a real difference to families across Scotland at a much-needed time.”
