1 min read

Tonight, on the 3rd of February 2021, there will be a national clap for Captain Sir Tom Moore at 18:00 GMT.

The 100 year old WWII veteran, who raised £33m for the NHS by walking 100 laps of garden, died yesterday after catching the coronavirus.

Boris Johnson encourages the public to participate in the clap tonight to celebrate the memory Captain Sir Tom Moore. The clap is also to celebrate “all those heath workers for whom he raised money.”

Captain Sir Tom’s family has said that due to the medication he was receiving for pneumonia, he was unable to receive the vaccine. He then tested positive for Covid-19 last week.

His family posted on Twitter that they would be “taking part with huge love in their hearts.” They further added that the last year of his life was “nothing short of remarkable… he had experienced things he’d only ever dreamed of”

Sir Captain Tom’s efforts not only inspired the country but also earned him a knighthood by the Queen.

Boris Johnson went on to say in his announcement this morning: “We all now have the opportunity to show our appreciation for [Capt Sir Tom] and all that he stood for and believed in.”
