If you have ever dreamed of writing a novel now is your time. The month of November is National Novel Writing Month and your time to write it starts now
National Novel Writing Month or NaNoWriMo as it is more commonly known as, is an annual challenge where participants aim to write 50,000 words during the month of November.
It is a great challenge for everyone. The 50,000-word benchmark is set so it can be completed by writers no matter their experience. It isn’t too hard for beginners but also isn’t too easy for those with more experience.
The challenge began back in 1999 and since then hundreds of thousands of people take part every year.
NaNoWriMo is a non-profit organisation with programs to support writing fluency and education. So far this year they have raised over $635,000.
NaNoWriMo is a great way to get down a first draft of your novel. Hundreds of novels written during NaNoWriMo have been published traditionally such as Sara Gruen’s Water for Elephants, Erin Morgenstern’s The Night Circus, Hugh Howley’s Wool and many more.
The great thing about NaNoWrimo is people take part from all around the world. You can join Virtual write-ins to help you reach your goal.
You can also join regional groups where you will find writers near you who are also participating to speak to and write with.
