Glasgow Film Festival (GFF) have announced their first events for their 20th anniversary, running from 28th February to 10th March.
Allison Gardner, CEO of Glasgow Film and Director of GFF, said: “I am overjoyed to select titles for the 20th edition of the festival alongside a group of programmers with such vibrant and innovative ideas Each programmer has been able to make their unique stamp on the upcoming festival through our popular Special Events, famous Retrospectives and rich Czech titles”.
Special Event Screenings
GFF’s special events will return to celebrate two landmark years in Glasgow Cinema History. The Cosmo Cinema, now Glasgow Film Theatre (GFT), opened in 1939 and to celebrate The Wizard of OZ will be shown in all its technicolour wizardry. In addition, John Waters’ trashterpiece Female Trouble will have a joint-anniversary with Glasgow Film Theatre, which was first established in 1974.
In retrospect
GFF’s free morning retrospectives will return for next year’s festival with Our Story So Far, a journey through 10 classic titles from each anniversary in Glasgow Fim’s history. These popular morning screenings are completely free to attend and will allow audiences to watch classic films on the big screen. Screenings include, Mr Smith Goes To Washington, Ninotchka, Only Angels Have Wings and Wuthering Heights from 1939 and the rare opportunity to see a back catalogue from 1974 which includes The Godfather Part II & Foxy Brown.
A focus on Czech cinema
GFF aims to display films from all areas of the globe and the country of focus for 2024 is Czechia. Czech, please! Will include titles such as the radical feminist film Daisies and the UK premiere of Is There Any Place For Me, Please?
