Viggo Mortensen coming to Glasgow Film Festival 2024

Glasgow Film Festival

Glasgow Film Festival (GFF) has announced a special live event with Hollywood star Viggo Mortensen on 3 March.

The Lord of the Rings actor will sit down for a live ‘in conversation’ event ahead of the UK premiere for his new western The Dead Don’t Hurt.

Also in attendance at this year’s event, director Ben Wheatley comes to Glasgow for an anniversary screening of his debut feature Down Terrace followed by a Q&A.

Mortensen both directs and stars in The Dead Don’t Hurt, an expansive new Western set in the 1860s. It follows Vivienne Le Coudy, a solitary French-Canadian who begins a relationship with Danish immigrant Holger Olsen. The film also stars Vicky Krieps, Danny Huston and Okrney-born actor Solly McLeod.

The Oscar nominated actor has previously worked with directors such as Peter Jackson, David Cronenburg, and Ridley Scott. This will be Mortensen’s second directing credit following his debut in 2020 with Falling.

Ben Wheatley is a festival favourite having previously screened his film High Rise in 2016. His debut Down Terrace came out in 2009 and follows a father and son who must sniff out a rat within their criminal organisation before it all comes crumbling down.

GFF announced its full programme for this year’s event yesterday including the Kirsten Stewart fronted romantic thriller Love Lies Bleeding as the opening gala; And Janey, a documentary on Janey Godley’s terminal cancer diagnosis closing out the festival.

Tickets for Viggo Mortensen In Conversation, Down Terrace and all other events at GFF24 go on sale to GFT Cinecard holders at 11 am on Friday 26 January and on general sale at 11 am on Monday 29 January at glasgowfilm.org and from the GFT Box Office.

Tickets to Opening and Closing Galas go on sale at 11 am on Thursday 25 January.
