Destroy Boys “Plucked”: Pop rock at its finest

Destroy Boys band members

Queer punk band Destroy boys have released their new single Plucked, in advance of their annual of their annual “Destroyfest” concert.

The band takes a different approach to their usual punk sound, incorporating pop and traditional rock elements to great success.

In the press release for the song, the band describes it as: “In the press release for the song, the band describes it as “A little pop-rock banger[…]It’s focused on freedom of expression and learning how to embrace your quirks.”

The band throws you straight into their new sound, all the instruments playing a sharp loud riff before stopping, letting the lead guitar take control. Lead singer Alexia begins to sing in time with the guitar.

Flowing between, softly singing to almost screaming in the chorus. The band is able to adapt effortlessly. The chorus closes with the same riff from the beginning and Alexia’s voice fading into a gentle harmony.

When the second chorus, all sound falls back as Alexia calmly sings “Take a bird out the sky and you wonder why” before the rest of the instruments return, with a surprise synth backing everything up.

The song closes with Alexia singing a soft harmony as they had done at the end of the chorus.

This is Destroy Boys’ third single off of their yet to be announced fourth album.

Plucked is out now and can be streamed on Spotify
