Chappell Roan ‘The Giver’ Review: Return of the Midwest Princess ★★★★☆

Everyone’s favourite Midwest Princess Chappell Roan has made her 2025 music debut with her Brand new single The Giver

However, this is not the first time fans are hearing this song. You see Chappell Roan made her Saturday Night Live(SNL) debut on 2 November 2024 as the shows musical guest, performing her smash hit Pink Pony Club and teasing her brand-new song The Giver.

After her SNL debut fans flocked to X expressing their love for the now grammy award winning artist, pleading for her to release the song on all streaming platforms.

Roan clearly noticed the high demand for the song and decided in February to start a month-long promotional campaign. This consisted of billboards, photoshoots and even the release of exclusive 7″ vinyl records on her storefront.

Along with this Roan began posting a series of pictures across all of her social media platforms, in these images she dressed as a range of different occupations, From a plumber to a lawyer with captions such as “Justice will be served”, further hyping fans up for her 2025 music debut.

The song possesses the same fun, flirty, country vibe that Roan has previously become known for. The lyrics express a clear sense of empowerment, directed towards females who are members of the queer community. This is a theme that Roan has never shied away from being a queer woman herself, Roan has been extremely vocal for her community especially through her music with songs such as Femininominon and Good Luck Babe, this is one of the reasons why her fans resonate with her so much.

The singles upbeat country melody brings a sense of personality and life to the song and having this paired with the flirty, tongue in cheek dynamic of the lyrics made it overall a very enjoyable listen.

The song continues to withhold the strong branding that roan is known for while still adding that sense of originality that fans have been yearning for since her album The Rise and Fall of the Midwestern Princess which was Roan’s most recent artistic endeavor.

Overall, I would say that this song perfectly embodies Roan’s branding. The lyrics show a clear sense of direction, that resonates with queer women. I overall really enjoyed listening and found it very refreshing to finally have new music from the Midwest Princess herself.
