Celebrate 20 years of God of War with the Dark Odyssey collection

Kratos wearing the Dark Odyssey outfit

To celebrate twenty years of the God of War franchise, Sony and Santa Monica Studios have revealed the ‘Dark Odyssey’ update for God of War Ragnarok.

The biggest thing to come from this update is the cosmetics provided for Kratos, Atreus and Freya. All the new cosmetics have a sleek gold and black colouring.

Kratos’ weapons are even given a cosmetic makeover with each weapon featuring a new selectable ‘Dark Odyssey’ pallet that transforms the weapons colours from their base gold and silver to the ‘Dark Odyssey’ black and gold style.

The most exciting cosmetic is undoubtedly Kratos’ ‘Dark Odyssey’ skin. This new skin re-colours Kratos, changing his ash-white skin into a dark black. Even his iconic red tattoo is changed into a bright gold.

Interestingly, Kratos’ ‘Dark Odyssey’ skin and armour aren’t new as the skin was originally given to players that completed God of War 2 on the game’s most difficult mode, ‘God Mode’.

The anniversary celebration doesn’t end there as an art showcase will be opening up at the Los Angeles Gallery Nucleus and a massive 13 vinyl collection of all of the series’ soundtracks will be open for pre-orders soon.

A two-volume anniversary book set is available to pre-order in the US. The book features interviews with creators from across the series’ twenty-year history. The books have been published by Dark Horse Books.

New twentieth anniversary t-shirts have been revealed, featuring the same gold style as the ‘Dark Odyssey’ collection and even a giant 67″ plush of the world serpent Jörmungandr can be pre-ordered soon.

The full details of the announcement can be read here.
