Just as Mariah Carey is defrosted for Christmas, so too is Canadian crooner Michael Bublé. His Christmas album is a staple of modern Christmas music with his covers and original songs.
These are my favourite songs for their lyrics, music and mood.
Jingle Bells ft. The Puppini Sisters
Bublé and The Puppini Sisters cover this song very well. Their voices are lively and add some swing elements into the music.
The lyrics are the same but a modern twist makes it more memorable and unique. The Puppini Sisters jazz genre brings solos, backing vocals and brass that makes you want to dance. Instead of a song you can tap your foot to in the car, you’ll want to cut a rug with your family around the Christmas tree.
Bublé ends the song with a flawless belt with the sisters’ London accent coming out before a final note from a trumpet.
Cold December Night
Christmas is a charitable, joyous and romantic time as well. And with Cold December Night, you feel cosy, romanced and loved.
Bublé wrote the song with Bob Rock about a Christmas romance
Jingle bells ring throughout the song for a festive melody with a piano accompaniment. The song is unique but still follows some typical Christmas song lyrics.
The lyrics create a gorgeous Christmassy atmosphere with a “tree that smells like pine” and “the sound of carols fill the household” and make you imagine a perfect Yuletide celebration.
Mis Deseos/Feliz Navidad
The song opens with Bublé singing in Spanish. The lyrics are nothing short of beautiful. Like “Al viento volaré mi voz
Con mis deseos a tu alma llegaré” (the wind I’ll blow my voice with my desires to your soul I will arrive).
Mexican singer and actress Thalia adds her own Spanish lyrics about celebrating together and prosperity in the new year.
Of course, the song ends with a belt that makes your soul glow.
This classic Christmas song come with a dance-inducing beat, creative lyrics and gorgeous vocals. You hear Michael Bublé sing in Spanish, you don’t want to miss that.
Santa Baby
Bublé sings about Christmas wishes, with some changes. Instead of decorations from Tiffany’s he asks Santa for a tree trimmed with Mercedes decor. Covers do have to some some originality, so there is no fault there. The song is mellow and a little sultry, which works well with Bublé’s voice.
Unlike other singers who have covered this song, Bublé goes for a platonic tone. Instead of cutie or honey, he calls Santa “buddy” and “pally”, why not be a little flirty, Bublé?
It’s Beginning to Look a Lot like Christmas
Perhaps the most iconic song on the playlist, It’s Beginning to Look a Lot like Christmas is a smooth and sweet cover of the song. Bublé’s strong singing voice adds a personal touch to the lyrics we know and love. There are no bells and whistles added, just feeling and Christmas joy.
