Why 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple Failed at the Box Office

28 Years Later: The Bone Temple has failed to reach the same financial benchmark as last year’s 28 Years Later.

Danny Boyle and Alex Garland’s re-entry into the world of Rage grossed approximately £110 million worldwide, whereas The Bone Temple’s take is a third of that.

Pulling in only £39 million against an estimated production cost of £46 million, the future of the franchise should be in question, however a sequel remains in the works for the time being.

Part of this financial failure could be that the film was pulled from 1,500 theatres in the US, though this is unlikely to be the full reason The Bone Temple failed.

As a sequel to a film that was polarising for most audiences in 2025, The Bone Temple had tough odds stacked against it.

Its financial failure is not reflective of its critical success as the film currently stands with a 7.7 rating on IMDB, and reached Rotten Tomatoes’ “Certified Fresh” rating with a 93% score overall.

The Bone Temple is still playing across in cinemas across the UK.
