Legendary anime Neon Genesis Evangelion is set to receive a new series directed by Neir: Automata creator Yoko Taro.
Announced as a part of a large-scale celebration of the cult-classic show, the new series will be co-produced by Studio Khara – the studio that previously released the four Evangelion Rebuild films.
Taro will be joined by Kazuya Tsurumaki and Toko Yatabe, two Evangelion veterans who will aid in directing and animating, respectively.
Franchise architect Hideaki Anno will be out of the creator’s chair for the first time since the franchise’s inception three decades ago.
No date has been given for when fans can expect the next series. In the meantime, they can tune in to the Evangelion:30 + 30th anniversary of Evangelion event that is currently taking place in Yokohama, Japan, from February 21 to 23.
