Stirling University Impresses at National XC Championships 2026

Stirling University athletes delivered a set of determined performances at the 2026 National XC Championships in Falkirk, battling through a tough course and demanding racing conditions.

Facing heavy underfoot terrain, deep championship fields and relentless early pace, Stirling’s athletes demonstrated discipline and determination throughout the day – highlighted by a podium finish for the U20 men’s team.

Solid Performances for U20 Men and Women

The standout achievement of the weekend came from Stirling’s U20 men, who secured an impressive team bronze medal in a fiercely competitive race.

Leading the charge was Patrick Cole, finishing 14th in a stacked field. He was closely supported by Chris Black (21st), Andrew McKechnie (34th) and Cameron Rankine (37th), whose combined efforts sealed the podium position.

Further finishes came from Ryan Kellock (45th), Aedan McGonigle (48th) and Lukas Robinson (59th), underlining the squad’s breadth and competitive resilience on the national stage.

In the U20 women’s race, Anna Calder produced a composed and determined run to place 17th, navigating the course with confidence. Leah Brown followed in 50th, adding another valuable national-level performance to Stirling’s tally.

Senior Athletes Battle Strong Fields

The senior races featured particularly large and high-quality fields, reflecting the prestige of the final major championships of the season.

In the Senior Women’s race, Alice Jones led the Stirling contingent with a strong 17th-place finish. Louisa Brown finished 31st, competing under Garscube Harriers, while Emma Livingstone placed 160th in a physically demanding contest.

In the Senior Men’s race, Fraser Gilmour crossed the line in 32nd (running with Kilbarchan AAC), with Cameron Kerr finishing 38th for Central AC. Rhys Williams (141st, Bellahouston Harriers) and Fraser Morris (282nd) completed Stirling’s senior representation.

A Strong Showing on the National Stage

The National XC Championships in Falkirk represent one of the most competitive fixtures in the Scottish endurance calendar, bringing together leading club and university athletes from across the country.

With a team bronze medal secured, multiple top-20 finishes recorded and representation across various age categories, Stirling demonstrated its strength across the endurance disciplines.

As Falkirk marks the final major race of the season, the Stirling runners can reflect on a campaign that closed on a strong note, laying positive foundations for the year ahead.
