The University of Stirling Tennis has claimed its fourth UK title this season.
During BUCS Big Wednesday, Stirling athletes Liam Hignett, Nemanja Malesevic, Rob Crowley, Cameron Fryer, and Kyle McKay beat the defending champions, the University of Nottingham, 4-0 to end an incredibly successful tennis season for Stirling. This trophy is the cherry on top of Stirling Tennis’ season, adding another accolade to their National League title, Doubles, and Individual Championships.
Liam Hignett was awarded Player of the Match in what could be his last time playing for Stirling. After the win, he said, “What a team we have this year, especially with Nemanja coming in; he has been an amazing addition. We all gel so well together, every day we train hard – and this is the end product of the work that we put in, it’s an absolute delight.”
Scott MacAulay, Lead Tennis Coach at Stirling, who was crowned Performance Coach of the Year at the 2026 Tennis Scotland Awards, said: “It was an unbelievable performance – to win it without losing a rubber was great. We’ve had a fantastic year – winning all four titles in the same academic year.”
Hignett went on to add: “I think this is the first time that one university has taken all four men’s titles in the same season – and that’s a testament to the hard work, leadership, and facilities with which the University provides us.”
The University of Stirling Tennis also went home with silver medals in the Women’s National Championship, Men’s National Vase, and Men’s National Trophy.
Overall, the University of Stirling had five teams competing at BUCS Big Wednesday, the highest representation Stirling has ever had at the event.
