Bellina Logan has made her Edinburgh Fringe debut with her original and moving one-woman show Confessions of a Mulatto Love Child, which explores her life of growing up biracial with her charismatic, larger-than-life English mother, and the later struggles from her mother’s memory loss.
The play reflects upon her unconventional home-shifting childhood, using quick character and voice shifts to tell wild memories of connections and cultural collisions, where remembering the all of the love and chaos is significantly important to Logan while caring for her mother as she loses her memory.
At the centre of her story is her personal and strong mother-daughter bond, where she uses intimate narration in a minimal set to tell various stories from different life experiences in an attempt to remember her life – a motto that her mother has reiterated to her since she was a child.
Logan successfully blends a range of comedic and emotional elements in with her dynamic storytelling, gifting the audience with a heartwarming and engaging performance that reminds them to hold onto precious memories and choose love.
