Ryder Cup winner Bernard Gallacher OBE and Stirling alumnus Professor Steve Peters are among those celebrating at the University of Stirling graduation later this month.
Sports psychologist Professor Steve Peters and Bernard Gallacher OBE are representing the sporting fields at the summer ceremony, with the former to receive a Doctor of the University, while the latter will be rewarded for his outstanding contribution to sport.
Peters, founder of the ‘Chimp Paradox’ mind management model, is a Stirling alumnus, and is receiving the degree for his outstanding contribution to Psychology, Health Sciences and Sport, having worked with sporting stars such as Scotland’s very own Sir Chris Hoy.
Meanwhile, Gallacher will similarly receive an outstanding contribution award for his achievements in professional golf, having picked up an impressive 22 wins throughout a highly successful career, which also involved winning the Ryder Cup as Team Europe’s non-playing Captain in 1995.
Principal and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Stirling, Professor Gerry McCormac, expressed his delight: “I am pleased to honour four outstanding individuals at our summer graduation ceremonies. They are role models to our graduands and embody the University’s values of excellence, ambition and openness.
“With a reputation for excellence in sports performance and science, it is only right that we are able to celebrate the achievements of Bernard Gallacher – a legend in Scottish golf – and Professor Steve Peters, one of the world’s leading minds in sports psychology.
“Graduation is a time of special celebration and I extend my congratulations to all of our graduands and honorary graduands on their hard-earned achievements.”
Peters and Gallacher will join over 2000 graduates receiving awards at the end of June, with the Faculties of Natural Sciences, Health Sciences and Sport and the Stirling Management School celebrating their achievements on Wednesday 28 June.
