The National Wallace Monument has recently undergone a face-lift. After the refurbishment of three floors, Wallace Monument is set to unveil its transformation on April 19.
With a turnaround of only a couple of months, visitors can expect a completely new experience.
For the first time, the updated exhibit pays homage to Scottish heroines such as Maggie Keswick Jencks and Mary Slessor.
Visitors will also be treated to the animated film, “Wallace – A Hero in the Making”, the specially commissioned piece telling that tale of William Wallace himself.
Older pieces, such as Wallace’s sword, will feature amongst the modern depictions of history, grounding the experience in a sense of reality.
One of the interactive elements incorporated into the scheme, includes the opportunity for visitors to create and project their own Coat of Arms onto a battle shield.
Although internal work will be completed on April 19, continued external conservation work will see admission charges reduced by 20% until work is finished at the end of May.
Stirling District Tourism Chair Zillah Jamieson spoke about the changes, stating that “the upgraded exhibition spaces will resonate with modern audiences from all over the world, through dynamic storytelling and digital enhancements.”
The refurbishment comes just in time for the monument’s 150thanniversary in September.
