University accommodation to remove Circuit laundry for new provider

The University has announced a change to its laundry provider over the summer period, away from Circuit laundry.

Some laundry services will be temporarily unavailable over the coming weeks until July 30, so that new washing machines from Washco can be installed. However, not all of the university’s laundry services will close at once.

In an email, the university’s accommodation team provided a timetable for laundry service closures:

The new Washco washing machines will operate a different payment system from the current Circuit laundry machines. Similar to the vending machines throughout campus, Washco will use a cashless system of payment, through the use of credit/debit cards, or via mobile payment services such as ApplePay.

With the new washing machines, a wash will cost £2.40, and a dry will cost £1.20.

In a drive to reduce the use of plastics and cardboard, the university announced that the Washco washing machines will include an automatic supply of washing detergent. The washing machine will supply the correct dosage of detergent for the wash, and is included in the cost of a wash. The detergent is hypo-allergenic.

Any Circuit laundry top-up cards will not work on the new Washco machines, so the university has advised that any remaining credit be used before the Circuit machines are removed. The last opportunity to use any credit will be July 17, before the last Circuit machines are removed from John Forty’s Court on July 18.

If a Circuit top-up card has more than £5 credit, a refund can be requested. This includes a £3 admin charge to return any remaining credit. More information on how to do this can be found on the Circuit FAQs page.
