Emergency services were called to attend a fire at the historical Langgarth House at around 5:30 pm this evening (Saturday).

Scottish Fire and Rescue Service have six appliances tackling the fire at St Ninians Road. Police Scotland are also in attendance.

Built in 1897, Langgarth House was one of four great villas designed by architect William Leiper. The building was previously owned by Stirling Council but now lies empty and boarded up.

MP Alyn Smith said: “A sad sight at the old Langgarth House at Old Viewforth, grateful to @fire_scot and @PoliceScotland in attendance keeping everyone safe.”

More information about Langgarth House can be found at The Stirling Smith Art Gallery and Museum website. The page says: “It would be a shame if Langgarth were lost to Stirling.”

The cause of the fire is currently unknown as police and fire services clear the scene.
