The Stirling University Drama Society (SUDS) are headed to the Edinburgh Fringe for the first time to showcase their original play In This Body of Flame.
Think you know the story of Samuel Pepys, the great diarist of London? SUDS is willing to change your mind.
The idea sprung to the recently graduated co-director and co-writer Sofia Sculati after a tour of London introduced her to Pepys. After researching the diarist more, she was inspired to undertake a historical retelling of his adult life.

She worked with co-writer Madelynne Kestner, who completed the play just three months ago. Kestner describes the play as an “experimental historical drama about Samuel Pepys, his diary and the people from his life.”
In the show, Pepys is confronted by his extramarital affairs, the Plague, and the notorious Great Fire of London (to name a few).
Teddy Finlow and Charlie Grant are sharing the role of Samuel Pepys. The cast members have all featured in previous SUDS shows, however, it is most of their first times performing at the Fringe.
More information on the eight-piece cast can be found on Instagram.
It is also both Kestner and Sculati’s Fringe debuts. Kestner said: “Performing at an open access performing arts festival is a unique experience because it gives emerging artists the ability to perform and allows them to connect with audiences around the world”.
In This Body of Flame will be at Paradise in The Vault from August 19-25. It starts at 6:10 pm every evening and tickets/venue information can be found here.
