Clairo Charm Tour Review: ★★★★★

5 mins read

Clairo charmed the O2 Academy in Glasgow for the second night in a row with her night two concert last Monday, 17 March

After a three year hiatus Clairo released her third-studio album Charm following her 2021 album Sling. She shows a different, more mature side in this album and explores more of a jazzy and soul genre of music and offers listeners a calm, relaxing listening experience.

The American singer started her tour in September around North America and only recently started her European leg in March going through Dublin, Utrecht and London before finally making her way to Glasgow for a two night performance for her adoring Scottish fans.

Upon arrival at the O2, you could see a long line of die hard fans with some even waiting outside the venue from two in the afternoon for the seven pm concert. As all the fans shuffled into the packed standing pit or the filled seats in the balcony, opening act June McDoom welcomed everyone through to get the audience excited and ready for the main event; Clairo.

Around an hour passed by and the light suddenly dimmed, much to the excitement of everyone and a warm light was shone on stage and there appeared Clairo and her accompanying band. She started off the gig the same way the album opens with her soft and smooth performance of Nomad which set the tone for the night and got the crowd ready for the rest of her set. She quickly moved straight on to a crowd favourite from the album Second Nature and got the crowd singing along and involving the audience.

It wasn’t only songs from her new album, she catered to some of her older fans performing some of her original bed room pop classics from 2019 such as Flaming Hot Cheetos and 4EVER which was a fun surprise for her fans who have been around since the beginning and was a good callback to the start of her career.

The first half of the concert was very tranquil and soothing, with her performing more of her chilled songs while her sultry movements captivated the crowd. The energy soon picked up when she sang Amoeba, one of her most popular songs and the crowd erupted into cheer and a long standing ovation. Just as the crowd quietened down the band played the familiar guitar riff of Steeeam which is a single from Clairo’s band she made with her friends in 2020 and this was only the third time she had performed this song live.

From then on the whole venue was standing even those in the balcony, and it was just hit song after hit song with newer ones such as Add Up My Love and Sexy to Someone in which Clairo seductively sang to enchant everyone in attendance and danced around on stage, encouraging everyone around to do the same.

The personal highlight of the night was her performance of Bags from her 2019 first-studio album Immunity which made everyone there emotional. She ended the night with the jazzy and soulful Juna which really showcased her talented band in particular the saxophonist as they got their own solo as Clairo sang along and as a final gift to the crowd her finale was the fan favourite Sofia which was only recently reintroduced into her setlist.

She thanked the crowd and concluded the show, much to everyone’s dismay as she could’ve performed the whole night and each person would have stayed. It was an unforgettable performance and certainly one that will leave an imprint on everyone who was privileged to be there that night.
