The University of Stirling Mountaineering Club (USMC) are to hold their end-of-year fundraising ceilidh at 7 pm on Wednesday 9th April 2025.
This event will have all funds raised from ticket sales and the selling of home-baked goods and hill snacks will go to Glencoe Mountain Rescue.
Tickets are being sold for £12 online and £15 on the door – the night will include dancing, drinks, charity fundraising, a Whiskey Toss hosted by the club’s hill walking coordinator and live folk music from the Stirling Youth Folk Club.
The club held a similar fundraising event last semester to raise money for WaterAid, managing to raise over £200 for the lifesaving charity that focuses on providing clean water, better hygiene, and decent toilets to communities and countries that need it while focusing on how the climate crisis affects their mission.
Stirling Youth Folk Club
The Stirling Youth Folk Club are “A young community in which we celebrate folk music every other week through getting as many other music lovers together to make and discover new folk music,” as seen on their Facebook page.
They have provided amazing music for many ceilidhs including the ones held by the USMC as well as others. They also have sessions playing folk music at Nicky-Tams bar in Stirling every other Monday night.
Glencoe Mountain Rescue
Glencoe Mountain Rescue is a charity based in Glencoe that has been providing safety and assistance to hill walkers, climbers, and mountaineers in the area since 1961.
It is “made up of dedicated and highly experienced but unpaid volunteers who operate 24 hours per day, 365 days per year” as seen on their website.
Donations are available to be made through the Glencoe MTR (Mountain Rescue) website. With typically 60-80 call-outs a year donations and volunteers are the backbone of the charity, and the USMC ceilidh will certainly prove beneficial for fundraising for the MTR team.
The USMC Ceilidh
Anyone is able to come even if you are not in the club. Club members, alumni, friends, family, and people who just want a great night out are able to join in on this wonderful event.
Join the USMC in a night of fun and fundraising as they celebrate the end of the year in all that they have accomplished such as the publishing of the first edition of their club journal and various training/guiding and funding successes throughout the year, and as they look forward to the year ahead.
Spend time socialising and dancing with your friends and the club members in a great night of celebration and relaxation and take a break away from assignments and exams.
