Edinburgh Fringe 2025 – Marc Jennings Bread and Circuses ★★★★☆

2 mins read

Have you ever seriously considered killing your parents to get on the property ladder, or romanticised bringing back the young team? If you have, Marc Jennings’ Bread and Circuses is the show for you this Edinburgh Fringe.

Jennings’ show blends current topics with a healthy dose of humour, leaving the audience laughing during the sold-out show. The jokes are original and unapologetically Scottish, which is always a pleasure to experience during the Fringe. The comedy night stands out from the rest, with Jennings’ signature style coming through.

The show covers the experience of modern dating, the reality of living with your family, and what it’s like to sound a bit pretentious when talking about your new favourite documentary. It may seem messy in its description, but it perfectly fits together.

It isn’t all crowd work – but beware, if you use the wrong door to go to the toilets or come dressed like you should be at the Oasis gig instead, you will be called out.

Growing up in Clydebank, going to Glasgow University and then going back to Clydebank and realising there is a good aspect – price, is the bones of his most recent show. From cousins fighting B list Scottish celebrities on nights out, and a lingering desire to kill his dad, Marc has stories to keep you wanting more.

Jennings has achieved fame on social media, with over 189,000 followers combined on Instagram and Tiktok. He is not a stranger to television either, as a regular panellist and writer on BBC Scotland’s Breaking The News and Scot Squad.

After winning Scottish Comedian of the Year in 2019, this show proves his talent is here to stay. But seriously, if his dad dies under suspicious circumstances, do check Marc’s alibi.

Marc Jennings will play at the Monkey Barrel Comedy Club at 19:50 until the 24th of August. The online tickets for the rest of his Fringe run are sold out, but there may be a limited number of pay what you can tickets available at the venue.
