Union seeks student geniuses to try out for TV quiz show

1 min read

The Students’ Union is on the look out for clever Stirling students to partake in next year’s series of BBC quiz show, University Challenge.

Bright sparks are invited to a try out session on Wednesday November 26 night. It will be hosted by Union President Justine and VP Communities Ellie at 5.30pm in Cottrell room 2A13.

At the try out, TV hopefuls will be asked a series of sample questions. No team forming is required at this point; the important thing is to “know a lot, collectively, about a lot of things”.

Any student graduating this Summer or after can apply, so most students at the university.

Stirling have never won university challenge before, though in 2013 four members of the university’s alumni featured in a Christmas Special. Paul Lewis took part in that, psychology graduate and BBC Radio 4 presenter.

Only three Scottish universities have won the series; the University of Dundee, St Andrews and, most recently, Edinburgh in 2019.

28 teams take part in each series, with six rounds of head-to-head matches taking place to crown the winners.
