Stirling University FC Seal Quarter Final Spot with 4-0 Win

SOUTH CHALLENGE CUP 5TH ROUND

STIRLING UNIVERSITY 4

RENFREW FC 0

Stirling University FC produced a strong performance to secure a clean-sheet victory over Renfrew FC and book their place in the quarter-finals.

The Uni started the match with good intensity and were rewarded early for their high-pressing approach.

The opening goal arrived when Jay Burns won possession high up the pitch and quickly played the ball into Thomas Vonk.

Given space, Vonk struck confidently from outside the box, finding the bottom corner to give Stirling a deserved lead.

Stirling continued to control play and doubled their advantage. Lewis played a well-weighted pass into the penalty area for Finn Moffett, whose initial effort was well saved by the Renfrew goalkeeper.

Vonk reacted quickest to the rebound, heading home from a tight angle to make it two.

The Uni added a third before the interval. Finn Moffett received the ball inside the penalty area and showed great composure to fire past the goalkeeper, giving Stirling a commanding lead heading into halftime.

Stirling completed the scoring late in the game when Sam Martin produced a great play, picking up the ball wide on the left; he beat Renfrew’s defender and drove into the box before finishing low past the goalkeeper to cap off an impressive display.

Renfrew were limited to few clear chances as the Uni remained organised and disciplined throughout, seeing the game out with confidence.

Uni head coach Chris Geddes praised both the result and the resilience shown by his squad.

He said: “It was really good to win and get a clean sheet. The main thing was getting through to the next round and into the quarter finals, so the job was done.

“I’m delighted for the boys because it’s been a tough few weeks with injuries and illness. Over the last two games we’ve defended really well when we’ve needed to and taken our chances when they’ve come.”

The Uni will return to Forthbank as they face Celtic B in their next Lowland League fixture. The Uni will be looking to build on this result and carry their momentum into another win at home.
