The Sokopop Quiz Night offered a lively night of Turkish pop culture and magazine trivia. The show also included audience participation with a bit of haggling for points. The host said from the start that the game was not fair so if you didn’t get picked on don’t be upset. The atmosphere was lively with all the groups of people fighting for the correct answers. However, the questions were based off from the late 90s and early 2000s pop culture. Due to the years it spanned over I mostly had no clue on what was going on.
From the beginning of the show the host brought the energy. The audience quickly got into it. The host did one trial round and everyone got the hang of the game. I personally was too young to know or understand why the jokes and questions were funny however, the rest of the audience seemed like they were having a great time and found the host and the questions hilarious. The questions involved music, artists, television shows, and drama.
Because of the age of the questions I did feel a little disconnected from the show. Deep down I did hope that the references would become younger so I could participate as well. That feeling unfortunately took away some of the enjoyment of the show for me.
Nevertheless, the show had plenty of positive points seeing the Turkish community come together to support the host was great. People had fun there was laughter throughout the show. And to see the competitiveness of people was really refreshing. People came out to have fun and laugh. That’s what the Edinburgh Fringe is about.
Overall, the show was fun and a change for me. Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves and have a great time. Even the host was laughing hard. The Turkish Comedy Week is still going. However, do keep in mind that the shows are in Turkish. For more information about the shows click the link.
