greenpeace protest at conservative party conference

Liz Truss’ Conference Speech disrupted by Greenpeace Protesters

1 min read

Greenpeace protesters have been removed from Tory party conference hall after an act of protest with Truss intervening from the lectern saying, “Let’s get them removed”.

The environmental activists held up a banner to protest during Truss’s first party conference as Prime Minister. The yellow banner said, “who voted for this?” and was rapidly ripped away from them, only for the women to pull out an identical banner.

The Tory crowd booed the two women and chanted ‘out’ as they were dragged away from the conference hall. They then cheered for Truss with comments ‘go Liz’ being shouted among the applause.

The protesters Rebecca Newsom and Ami McCarthy both work for Greenpeace UK, with Newsom as the head of public affairs and McCarthy as a policy officer.

Greenpeace went to Twitter to explain: “Greenpeace activists have interrupted @TrussLiz speech at #CPC22 to denounce the prime minister ‘shredding’ her party’s 2019 manifesto promises.”

“The PM is U-turning on fracking, strong climate action, and world-leading environmental protections.”
