Callum Park bags cup winner to complete 4’s double

Stirling’s fourth football team completed a league and cup double on Wednesday as Callum Park scored the winning goal in the Men’s Scottish Conference Trophy final.

A 1-0 win over Herriott-Watt University 4’s in St. Andrews earned more silverware to cap an already successful season.

The BUCS Division 5A League title was secured last Wednesday after defeating the University of West of Scotland 2’s 7-1 in Stirling.

After securing the double, fourth team captain Daniel McKay said: “I just want to thank everyone who has been involved with the 4’s.

“It’s been a great year on and off the pitch.

“I want to give special thanks to Ross [Ireland], Mark [Moir], and Ponty [Caio Pontes], who have helped me with training sessions and picking the teams throughout the year.

“Winning the double has been the highlight of my Uni football career, and I’m sure many others as well.

“This is a great way to round off a brilliant season.”

It was a nervy affair at the University of St. Andrews on BUCS Scottish Conference Finals day, and after a fairly even first half, the game was goalless at the break.

Stirling had the majority of the chances in the second half, though, and held possession well.

Eventually, Stirling’s dominance was rewarded as Park scored the game’s only goal to put his side in front on 70 minutes.

After a scramble in the box from a Stirling corner, Park took a quick touch to set himself before curling his effort into the top corner to secure the double.

The cup triumph wrapped up a winning day for the Men’s football club.

The first team were in action in Stirling, as Chris Geddes’ side beat Nottingham University 2-1 to reach the BUCS National Championships final for the first time since the 2015/16 season.
