David Lynch and Mark Frost’s Twin Peaks has one of television’s most passionate cult fanbases. So, every year, on the day (24 February) Agent Dale Cooper enters the fictional town in the show’s pilot episode, fans come together to celebrate their shared love of the show.
How to celebrate
If you want to get involved with the celebrations, here are some fun activities:
- Watch Twin Peaks: The most obvious but effective answer. Immerse yourself in the world of the show and the mystery of “Who killed Laura Palmer?”
- Listen to the soundtrack: The beautiful score, composed by the late Angelo Badalamenti, is the perfect ambience for your celebrations. You can even watch Angelo reminisce about composing Laura Palmer’s Theme, one of the show’s most famous pieces. (Linked below).
- Enjoy some Cherry Pie and Black Coffee: Many of the show’s characters visit Norma’s R.R diner where they enjoy some coffee “as black as midnight on a moonless night” and enjoy some delicious cherry pie (which may be difficult to find in some UK supermarkets, but Waitrose does offer an out-of-season option).
The Declaration
To make things even more exciting, the North Bend governance have officially recognised 24 February as Twin Peaks Day. This has become an annual tradition since the show returned in 2017 for a limited series run.
