From Stirling University Drama Society to Shakespeare, the University’s resident Macrobert Arts Centre is hosting a range of live events this semester. Here are some to put in your diary.
Stirling University Society Showcases
Stirling University Drama Society (SUDS) has two shows this semester. Their Spring production of Sophocles’ Antigone will run for three showings from Feb 26-27. It follows Antigone, the daughter of Oedipus the King, in the aftermath of the Theban civil war as she navigates rebellion and family.
They will also perform a series of one-act plays on April 8-9. They will be written by SUDS members and selected by university lecturers.
Stirling Musical Theatre Society is bringing 9 to 5 the Musical to Stirling on April 11 and 12. Based on the 20th Century Fox Picture and set to the iconic Dolly Parton soundtrack, it is bound to be a good laugh.
The Stirling University Dance Club (SUDC) are hosting a UK-wide dance competition on Saturday, March 1. After competing across the UK in advanced and intermediate performances over the years, the team are bringing University talent to Stirling for the full-day event.
Later in the semester, on April 19, SUDC will perform their annual showcase Never Miss a Beat. Audiences can expect a mix of competition pieces, class dances, and even a full cast musical theatre section.
Comedy
Comedian Craig Hill’s show I’ve Been Sitting on This for a While arrives the Stirling campus on February 7, with student tickets starting at £5.
In a show about spending time with his granny, comedian Larry Dean aims to show Stirling audiences “the benefits of being a dafty” in Dodger on February 28.
Hacker T Dog sidekick turned Love Island presenter, Iain Stirling, is visiting Macrobert on April 4 for his largest tour to date – Relevant.
Substate Comedy is bringing a cohort of emerging Scottish comedians to Stirling for a weekend of laughs on April 25-26.
Interest in the Outdoors
American adventure sports filmmaker, Warren Miller, will have the 75th anniversary of his debut ski film Deep and Light celebrated by a new production titled 75. On January 28, 75 will showcase emerging talent and aims to “set the tone for the next 75 years”.
The Kendal Mountain Tour is coming to the centre on April 16, promising to showcase courage and breathtaking landscapes through award winning films. Alongside the series of films will be a guest speaker, who will be announced closer to the time.
The Banff Mountain Film Festival is back on May 18 to celebrate outdoor filmmakers in their impressive feats around the world. This year marks the 50th year of the festival.

Live Screenings
A wide range of live opera, ballet and theatre is screening at Macrobert’s this semester. Productions include David Tennent’s MacBeth, Les Misérables, Swan Lake and Jesus Christ Superstar.

Family Friendly
Clydebuilt Puppet Theatre are performing three shows in Stirling. In Elves and the Shoemaker, a poor shoemaker is helped by two mischievous elves in this Grimm’s adaptation.
Dinosaur Detectives and Myths of the Vikings will take audiences back in time with a charming mix of puppetry and shadow theatre.
The Scottish Dance Theatre is performing their latest show Pirates! on April 25 – 26. Stirling University Students can get tickets for £5.
