Valentine’s from afar

4 mins read

Long-distance relationships are hard, and it’s even harder when days like Valentine’s Day come around and you can’t spend the day with your partner.

When all you can think of is what you’re both missing and looking back on memories from previous years when you got to be together, it can be difficult to see any light in the situation.

So, how can we make the most of the day without being together?

Here are a few tips on how to make the most of the distance.

Cook a meal together

Of course, you can’t physically make a meal together but that doesn’t mean you can’t cook together.

Both of you get the same ingredients for the same meal and FaceTime each other while cooking. It may not feel exactly the same but this is a fun way to get quality time together while actually experiencing the same thing.

This can of course be difficult when factoring in things like time differences, but it’s not impossible. One of you can cook earlier than usual and the other later! It’s worth the change of schedule for the time you get to spend together.

Alternatively, if cooking isn’t your thing, you can both order in the same type of food and eat that together instead.

Watch a film

Although this may seem obvious, watch a film together! Either FaceTime while watching or use something like Netflix party watch to watch at the same time!

By doing this you get to experience the same feelings of the movie at the same time. You get to laugh and cry together and feel each other’s presence, even if you’re not right beside each other.

And of course, once the film is over you get to do the best part: discuss and debrief your thoughts!

Do a craft together

You don’t have to physically be with each other to craft together.

There are plenty of fun crafts and trends you can follow from a distance, like the trend where you paint each other and see who is better!

Or both of you get some clay and create the same little animal figurines or get some pottery and paint it to your liking!

You can even both buy the same Lego set and build it together!

Play a game

Games are some of the most fun ways to spend time together from afar. Maybe this isn’t the most romantic idea, but it sure is entertaining.

Pick your favourite game like Minecraft and create a world together!

Or download an app like Uno or Scrabble and compete online!

If apps aren’t your thing then they aren’t necessary. Throw it back to your childhood and play a game of hangman or solve a crossword together!
