The Brit Awards 2025, hosted by Jack Whitehall, took place on Saturday night. Charli xcx dominated the night, after the huge success of her sixth studio album, Brat, which defined the summer and clubbing scene. She took home the awards for artist of the year, album of the year, best dance act, songwriter of the year and song of the year for Guess, featuring Billie Eilish. The show featured performances from the likes of JADE, Sam Fender, Sabrina Carpenter, Lola Young, The Last Dinner Party and Teddy Swims.
Charli xcx not only swept the awards but secured the most coveted of the night with artist of the year, album of the year and song of the year. She used her acceptance speech for best dance act to thank her collaborators, bringing her producer AG Cook, fiancé George Daniel of the 1975 and Finn Keane on stage. She joked; “I wouldn’t be up here without these three straight white men.” Charli xcx’s success also seen dance music being taken seriously in multiple genres, and she took the opportunity to discuss that dance music can be “that deep.” “This genre of music for me is euphoric. It allows me to escape and feel on such a deep level.”
Chappell Roan also had great success, winning international artist and song of the year, with her hit, Good Luck Babe. She was not able to attend the awards in person and instead had pre-recorded acceptance speeches.
After winning best pop act, JADE, a member of the on-hiatus girl group Little Mix, performed her single, “Angel of my Dreams.” It was a highly produced, memorable performance, which showed exactly why she deserved the award. During her acceptance speech, she thanked her Little Mix sisters, saying she wouldn’t have achieved this without them, and that they changed her life. This was JADE’s first solo Brit.
Paloma Faith presented the award for best dance act and took her opportunity on national television to criticise US President Donald Trump and Americans who voted for him. She said, “some people are getting it wrong, thanks to the voters of America.” Friday saw the Trump – Zelensky clash at the white house. Actor Danny Dyer also got political, this time criticising Sir Keir Starmer. The majority of his interview from Jack Whitehall was censored live by ITV to avoid swearing on air. When asked by Whitehall who would win the award for t**t of the year, he replied, “The world is being run by cranks at the moment, so probably Sir Keir Starmer.”
Millie Bobby Brown presented Sabrina Carpenter with the global success award. Brown is a fan of Carpenter and was previously “arrested” by the musician for being too hot during a short n’ sweet concert.
Sam Fender won the fan voted award for alternative / rock act. Stormzy won the fan voted award for hip hop / grime / rap act, but said he didn’t entirely believe that awards should be fan voted because it can stop people from having their moment, and that Central Cee was the rapper of the year.
Both Stormzy and Ezra Collective, who won group of the year, talked about their faith in their acceptance speeches. They thanked Jesus Christ for their success, and Stormzy read a verse from the Bible. (Psalms 138 verse 8)
The Last Dinner Party took the award for best new artist of the year, after winning the rising star award last year. They performed their most famous track, Nothing Matters and presented Myles Smith, the singer behind Stargazing, with the rising star award for 2025.
